Heat and Moisture Sources and Sinks of Asian Monsoon Precipitating Systems

چکیده

The structure and properties of , heat and moisture sources and sinks of the Asian monsoon are reviewed. Results from the First GARP Global Experiment (FGGE) have yielded important information on these sources, ranging from the planetary scale down to the scale of individual convective systems. The emerging picture is one of a complex spatial and temporal distribution of heat sources over the enormous area covered by the Asian monsoon, with the detailed structure of this distribution determined in large part by a wide variety of types of precipitating systems. Several recent experiments, the 1987 Australian Monsoon Experiment (AMEX), the 1987 Equatorial Mesoscale Experiment (EMEX), the Taiwan Area Mesoscale Experiment (TAMEX), and the 19881990 Down Under Doppler and Electricity Experiment (DUNDEE), have provided new knowledge concerning the nature of mesoscale convective systems within the monsoon and their contributions to monsoon heat and moisture sources and sinks. Some of the findings of these experiments confirm previous conceptual models of precipitating systems, but also provide new insight into convective processes in the Asian monsoon.

A review of recent progress on Tibet’s role in the South Asian monsoon

The Tibetan Plateau exerts a profound influence on winds in boreal winter primarily through mechanical means, blocking flow to create waves in the jet stream that extend around Earth’s full circumference (e.g. Held et al., 2002). In contrast, this plateau was thought to influence boreal summer winds primarily through its thermal effects, providing a heat source over 4 km high and 2,000 km wide ...

The Optimal Design of Heat Sinks: A Review

Heat sinks are used in industrial equipment to dissipate the excess heat from their heat-generating parts to the ambient. In the last few years, efforts on manufacturing electronic or mechanical devices with less weight, space, and lower cost were spent. Heat dissipation from the heat sink is stalling a big problem which many researchers are trying to solve. The aim of this study is to brief th...

A high-resolution absolute-dated late Pleistocene Monsoon record from Hulu Cave, China.

Oxygen isotope records of five stalagmites from Hulu Cave near Nanjing bear a remarkable resemblance to oxygen isotope records from Greenland ice cores, suggesting that East Asian Monsoon intensity changed in concert with Greenland temperature between 11,000 and 75,000 years before the present (yr. B.P.). Between 11,000 and 30,000 yr. B.P., the timing of changes in the monsoon, as established w...
